Sheikah Latifa Mohammed Al Maktoum left Dubai citing multiple abuses of her Human Rights, including being jailed for over 3 years, at the hands of her father Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of the Emirate and Vice President of the UAE.
Latifa claims that she was imprisoned for helping her sister Shamsa following her attempt in 2001 to escape the Royal Family, and for trying to leave the UAE herself in 2002. During her time in prison she alleges she was regularly beaten and tortured, all at the behest of her billionaire father.
The Princess described living subject to a curfew, not being allowed to drive or go out alone. She also alleged she had been drugged by medical staff to stop her ‘rebelling or causing trouble.’
Latifa attempted to escape Dubai in the company of an ex spy and a friend but their yacht was attacked on 5 March 2018 and there has been no communication with the Princess since. Her whereabouts and her well-being are currently unknown, although she is believed to have been returned to the UAE, to her billionaire Sheikh father who she has publicly described as ‘evil’ and ‘a killer’.
